do whatever you like – 11 short films about the changing nature of work
The eleven short films of the short film reel "do whatever you like" are the results of a short film competition initiated by the Federal Culture Foundation in cooperation with the Hamburg Short Film Agency and ZDF/ARTE in the spring of 2006:
The task given was to develop concepts for short films which would offer inventive ideas and visions about the future of the world of work. Therefore the thematic scope of the entries reached from (satirical) descriptions of the current state of things, to documentaries about alternative drafts of traditional employment, up to fictional prognosisses.
Different aspects of work are referred to: dreams children are having about their future jobs, jobs that may be available in the future, brutal outsourcing, but also the importance of work experienced as something meaningful within a functioning commune.
In the face of constantly diminishing job vacancies all these films point out the dedication that is asked from each and every one. Because if someone is inventing jobs like the Freelance Travel Guide or the Forest Cleaner he is actively resisting to become obsolete as a person. As versatile as these observations may seem, they all make the same declaration: you are far from being outsourced!
Starting from May 1st 2007 on the short film reel "do whatever you like" is being shown in cinemas. Current dates can be found under "In cinemas". In addition to that a number of single films from the reel are being invited to film festivals. Current dates can be found under "Festivals".
